program note: Built on the KeyScanner system, the piano's keystrokes drive electronics and interactive visuals in real time, so that gesture and image become inseparable. The pun in the title, fantaisie, impromptu, prompt, frames the work as an inquiry into the post-internet performer: the cyborg soloist whose body is extended and answered by the machine, the screen becoming a second player on stage.
