program note: Folk material is reimagined as playground song: simple, repetitive, slightly broken tunes refracted through the Pierrot ensemble. The piece is a clear instance of contrapuntal thinking, with melodic lines scattered and mashed across the ensemble as independent yet interdependent voices, in the manner of a fugue dismantled and reassembled through the textures of childhood play.
