program note: A sinfonietta whose title fuses Rotterdam and zand (sand), portraying the city through granular, shifting textures. The large ensemble builds drifting masses and accumulations, sand as both material and metaphor for a port city in constant reconfiguration, in a portrait that is environmental as much as musical.
