program note: A one-act operetta that relocates the Goldilocks fable to contemporary Amsterdam, where the fairy tale becomes a sharp parable of the Dutch housing crisis. The girl who lets herself into a house that isn't hers, tries every bed and chair, and hunts for the one that fits "just right" turns into a figure of the city's impossible search for a home: the newcomer, the squatter, the precarious tenant moving through spaces that belong to someone else. Beneath the operetta's lightness and irony runs a harder question about who gets to live where, and at what cost. The "just right" never arrives, in a city of soaring rents and vanishing rooms, the fairy-tale ending is exactly what's missing.
