program note: A piece about the slow disappearance of birds from the world's forests, the gradual thinning of birdsong until silence creeps into a soundscape that once teemed with it. As the work unfolds, the living calls are increasingly overtaken by their artificial doubles, nature destabilised, recorded, replaced.
